Tonight’s Special City Meeting referencing Denton Cove Lawsuit has been canceled

First your city leadership thanks each of you for your vigilance concerning Denton Cove and the lawsuit presently before the Apalachicola Board of City Commissioners.

Tonight’s Special Meeting that was posted on the official website of the City of Apalachicola Sunday, October 18, 2015, has been canceled.

The meeting was scheduled after last week pretrial depositions and discovery to hear a proposed resolution in the Denton Cove lawsuit from the attorney assigned to the case by the city’s insurance carrier.

As allowed under Florida Statues such meetings are normally held in Executive Client Session, just between the governing entity and its legal representation. However, given the nature of the lawsuit and the expressed concerns from the community, the meeting was scheduled as a Special Meeting and opened to the public.

However, hours leading up to tonight's meeting, the city’s legal team was unable to reach a resolution with Denton Cove that was favorable to the position of the City of Apalachicola and its residents. Therefore, the meeting was canceled and the lawsuit continues at this time.
