Today Florida State Senator Bill Montford updated county and city officials on the 2016 Legislative Session, which wrapped up Friday, March 11.

Thanks to Montford’s leadership the Legislature approved, subject to veto by Gov. Rick Scott the City of Apalachicola’s application for a $100,000 grant from the Florida Recreation Development Assistance Program (FRDAP).

With the grant the city will be able to provide more outdoor recreational opportunities for both its residents and visitors.  Awarded in separate $50,000 grants, plans for the money are to help fund the construction of a splash pad and the purchase of playground equipment at the Mayor Van W. Johnson, Sr., Recreation & Community Service Complex (the former Apalachicola High School Campus).

“This has been a vision of mine ever since we acquired the old school from the Franklin County School District… this and the construction of a swimming pool out there”, said Mayor Van Johnson.
