Eastpoint Express Lane robbery suspect arrested today without incident

An Alabama man traveling West on U.S. Highway 98 through Eastpoint was arrested for armed robbery today by deputies from the Franklin County Sheriff office after he held up the Eastpoint Express Lane at 140 Franklin Blvd.

With a fake gun and a note Willie Thomas from Dothan, Alabama stopped and entered the convenience store and demanded cash from the clerk.  Afterwards, the suspect fled the store with a bag of money in a car stolen earlier traveling at a speed of 100 miles per hour as he approached the City of Apalachicola.

Franklin county deputies radioed ahead as Thomas approached the John Gorrie Bridge where he met a road block setup at the high hump by Apalachicola Police Officer Timothy Davis.

Thomas slowed the stolen vehicle and surrendered to Officer Davis without further incident.  Franklin County deputies arrived on the scene, took Thomas into custody and transported him to the Franklin County Jail on S.R. Road 65.
