Qualifying for Apalachicola fall elections begins this week


Candidates wishing to qualify in the City of Apalachicola fall election may do so at the City Office starting Noon today until Noon Friday, July 3, 2015.  The City Office is located at 1 Avenue E in downtown Apalachicola. Regular office hours are from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday thru Friday. 

Offices up for electoral consideration include the Mayor for a term of four years, City Commissioner Seat 1 for a term of four years, and City Commissioner Seat 2 for a term of four years. Election Day is Tuesday, September 8, 2015 and early voting is slated for August 31, 2015 through September 4, 2015 (5 days only) at the Supervisor of Elections Office located at 47 Avenue F, Apalachicola, Florida from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM.

Each prospective candidate must pay to the City Clerk at the time of qualifying a qualifying fee of 4.5% of the first year’s salary, must be a resident of the City of Apalachicola, and must also be a qualified voter of the State of Florida, County of Franklin, and the City of Apalachicola.

All persons not previously registered to vote may register to vote anytime from now up to 4:30 PM on Monday, August 10, 2015 for the General Election, and Monday, August 24, 2015 for a Run-Off Election if necessary at the Office of the Franklin County Supervisor of Elections.

The polling place will be held at the Historic Holy Family Senior Citizen Center located at 203 Dr. Frederick S. Humphries Street (7th Street) in Apalachicola and will be open at 7:00 AM and close at 7:00 PM, on Election Day September 8th.  Absentee ballots may be obtained by contacting the Office of the Franklin County Supervisor of Elections at the place and time previously noted. Only qualified electors will be permitted to vote

All residents of the City of Apalachicola not currently registered to vote are urged to register and encouraged to take part in this election.
