Upcoming Classes on Green Industries Best Management Practices

In 2009 the Florida Legislature passed S.B. 482.1562 that requires all lawn maintenance and landscape professionals who apply fertilizer commercially to complete approved training and obtain licenses from the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services by January 1, 2014.

Others who apply fertilizer as part of a job for a city, county or state agency or a public institution can benefit from the training as well.  However, many who need the training and license have not yet taken the class.

If you or anyone you know that does this sort or work commercially and haven't had the opportunity to obtain the required training and licenses, there are two upcoming training classes on Green Industries Best Management Practices, both of which will be held this month in Jackson and Gulf counties.

The class in Jackson County will be held from 8:00AM to 3:30PM December 11, 2013, at the Jackson County Extension - 2741 Pennsylvania Ave - Marianna, FL 32448.  The registration fee is $30 and the person of contact is Rob Trawick at rob.trawick@ufl.edu  or at (850) 482-9620.

The Gulf County class will be held December 18, 2013 at the Gulf County IFAS Extension Office.  To sign up or for more information contact Roy Carter at UF IFAS Gulf Extension at (850) 639-3200 or the Northwest Florida GI-BMP Regional Coordinator, Hector Rivera via email at Hector.Rivera@dep.state.fl.us  or via telephone at (850) 245-8086.

The class, including the test, is available in Spanish, please contact your local IFAS extension for more information.
