The oil spill caused by the explosion of BP's Deepwater Horizon platform, now covering over 3,850 square miles in the Gulf of Mexico, mobilized Florida State University and partner insitutions to form the Oil Spill Academic Task Force (OSATF) focused on helping the State of Florida prepare for and respond to the spill.The Florida Department of Environmental Protection has been charged with leading Florida effort.
