Apalachicola police officer foil would-be theft

Apalachicola Police Officer Sgt. John "Chet" Turner foiled an attempted break-in of two vehicles parked near the Lafayette Park area during a routine patrol of the city Friday night.
According to a report from Apalachicola Police Chief Bobby Varnes, while patrolling the city Sgt. Turner came upon two unknown male suspects attempting to break and enter two pickup trucks parked at separate addresses in the vicinity of Lafayette Park.
Once the suspects caught sight of Turner's approaching cruiser, they fled the scene on foot running through the park.  Turner called for back up, but gave chase while waiting on help to arrive.  Deputies with the Franklin County Sheriffs Office arrived shortly and joined Turner in search of the two suspects, but to no avail.
The suspects however did manage to leave behind two bicycles and police are now circulating photos of the bikes with hope that someone in the public can help identify the owners.
