Apalachicola police officers found crack cocaine in a man's car after stopping him for running through a stop sign in front of an officer at the intersection of 24th Avenue and Earl King Street.
Robert Brennan Lemuel Walden, 21, of Carrabelle, was stopped by Apalachicola Police Officer Timothy Davis Saturday evening after Walden failed to stop at the stop sign. After the stop, Deputy Jody Martina with the Franklin County Sheriffs Office K-9 Unit pulled up, walked his service dog around the vehicle and was alerted to the presence of drugs.
A search of the vehicle yielded a large quantity of crack cocaine hidden inside a cigarette box. During the search Walden was holding an infant child in his arms, once the hidden drugs were found he tossed the child on the seat, grabbed the drugs and fled the vehicle on foot leaving the infant behind. Officers with the Franklin County Sheriffs Office and the City of Apalachicola caught up with Walden after a lengthy foot chase and had to subdue the young man with the use of a taser after he became violent, fighting and biting the officers.
According to a report from Apalachicola Police Cheif Bobby Varnes, Walden was arrested and booked into the Franklin County Jail located on S.R. 65 outside of Eastpoint on charges of child abuse, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, two counts battery on a law enforcement officer, two counts resisting arrest with violence and corruption by threats.
