Organizers Gearing Up for 2015 Apalachicola Mardi Gras

The Mystic Krewe of Salty Barkers is busy organizing this year's Mardi Gras, which will kick-off with a parade scheduled for 1:00pm EDT Saturday, February 7, 2015 that will feature a unit made up of dog-lovers and their pups. This year’s theme is “BARKARITAVILLE”, which include the adorning of tropical parrot-head costumes or traditional Mardi Gras garb and celebrating Apalach style! Proceeds from this event will go to benefit the Franklin County Animal Shelter and the Apalachicola Dog Park.

Golf carts will be the main mode of transport in the parade, however participants may walk, pull wagons, or push strollers. In fact, this may be the only parade where you'll see oyster boats being used as floats.  At any rate, if you will you can come up with your own unique form of transportation or just come to catch beads and enjoy the fun.

The parade lineup will begin at the Historic Bowery located on the corner of Avenue F and Commerce Street and wind through downtown Apalachicola.

After the parade you can join in a pet-friendly celebration at the Bowery Station for live music, dancing, Cajun food, drinks, games & contests. Photo sessions by Mandi Singer Photography, traditional king cake and beignets provided by Wake and Bake Bakery, and homemade gumbo will be available along with other fun things for the family to enjoy.

If you're interested in being part of the Krewe and helping to plan the parade or if you would like to be in the parade, please contact Caroline Ilardi via telephone at (850)670-5064 or via email at carolineilardi@aol.com to make sure you're included.
