Two
juveniles suspected in the armed robbery of an Apalachicola man on Thursday,
July 11, 2013, are now in custody thanks to the swift action of officers with
the Apalachicola Police Department.
The
arrests followed a frantic complaint from an Apalachicola resident that two
males had robbed him at approximately 10:00 PM on Thursday, according to Apalachicola
Police Chief Bobby Varnes.
The
victim was not physically injured, but noticeably shaken by the encounter told
police officers that two males came at him and robbed him of $10.00. One male wore a mask and held a gun; the
other was unmasked and recognized by the victim.
Shortly after,
officers confirmed
the identity
of the unmasked suspect, learned
that he was a juvenile from neighboring Port St. Joe, and had already fled the area to Panama City.
Today,
relatives of the unmasked suspect escorted him back into the county to the
Franklin County Jail where he was placed into custody by waiting officers. Officers later identified the other suspect as
a juvenile also from Port St. Joe, and likewise he was brought back by a relative and placed
into custody.
Their
names are withheld because of their ages and they are presumed innocent
until proven otherwise in a court of law.
