The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will be hosting a public meeting of its LocalGovernment Advisory Committee (LGAC) Gulf Coast Restoration Workgroup on Thursday, February 17, 2011. The meeting will take place from 9:30AM - 12:30PM at the Sheraton New Orleans Hotel - 500 Canal Street.
The LGAC is composed primarily of elected and appointed local officials. On November 18, 2010, EPA Administrator Lisa P. Jackson charged the LGAC with advising her on how best to engage local officials on the Gulf Coast restoration effort. As you may be aware, President Obama created the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force on October 5, 2010 through Executive Order 13554 and appointed Administrator Jackson Chair.
The LGAC Gulf Coast Restoration Workgroup provides input to the Committee as it develops recommendations for the Administrator in her role as Chair of the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force. Local government officials have the opportunity to provide input and recommendations on outreach to, and assistance for, Gulf Coastcommunities to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of restoration efforts as well as planning and restoration needs, including opportunities for local government partnerships and identifying silos in federal programs.
The meeting will feature a public comment period from 11:20AM - 12:25PM. Participants will be given up to 5 minutes to provide comments that relate to the workgroup's charge. Written comments will also be accepted and can be sent to Cook.Rebecca@epa.gov.
Additionally, the Gulf Coast Ecosystem Restoration Task Force will hold a public meeting in New Orleans on February 28, 2011. For more information about the Task Force meeting, please visit: http://www.restorethegulf.gov/.
