Apalachicola Mayor to “Read-Aloud” at local Library

Bring your child to join with me this Saturday, February 12, from 11:00AM – 12:00PM at the Apalachicola Municipal Library for snacks and a “read-aloud” in celebration of Black History Month.

The “read-aloud” is part of a collaboration between the City of Apalachicola and the Hillside Coalition of Laborers for Apalachicola, Inc., (H’COLA) to recognize and observe the many contributions African-Americans have made toward the success of this great nation.

I will be reading President Barack Obama’s new book titled “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters” followed by snacks and a tour of the library.

The book written before Obama became president – aimed at young children offers brief glimpses of how the contributions of a single person can touch lives, inspire others, and sometimes, change the course of history.

For the tour, there will be an assortment of books about African-Americans on display and at H’COLA’s 8th Annual African-American History Festival scheduled for the weekend of February 19 – 20.

So come on out and bring the kids this Saturday at the Apalachicola Municipal Library located at 74 6th Street in historic Apalachicola.

For more information, contact Librarian Caty Greene at (850) 653-8436 or email: amlib@fairpoint.net. – Hope to see you there!
