Lifeline Awareness Week Kicks Off Today

Joining public utility commissions across the nation, the Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) will be kicking off “2010 National Lifeline Awareness Week” today September 13, in historic Apalachicola, to promote telephone assistance programs.

PSC Commissioner Lisa Polak Edgar, Mayor Van Johnson, and Public Counsel J.R. Kelly will be in attendance. Telephone company representatives will be available to sign up eligible residents, and refreshments will be served. Other local officials are also expected to attend.

The PSC continues to spread the word and increase participation in the Link-Up Florida and Lifeline Assistance programs making telephone service affordable for Florida’s low-income consumers to help them stay connected to neighbors, friends, family, and to beneficial community services.

The event will be held from 10:00AM – 1:00PM at the Apalachicola Community Center -1 Bay Avenue - Apalachicola, Florida.

The Federal Communications Commission, the National Association of Regulated Utility Commissioners, and the National Association of State Utility Consumer Advocates are supporting this year’s “National Lifeline Awareness Week”, September 13-19. Other Florida events are scheduled during the week.
