A representative from British Petroleum (BP) made contact with Apalachicola city officials today, May 15, about the use of Battery Park Point and Hendels Baseball Field as staging areas to deploy boom material to protect Franklin County’s environmentally sensitive coastline.
As of Thursday, BP officials had put on hold the idea of using sites within Apalachicola for staging. However, this morning City Administrator Betty Taylor-Webb received word that Apalachicola had moved up on the list as a high priority area for staging and boom deployment.
BP is estimating use of city property for about 6 months, with staging to begin as early as this afternoon.
