According to Apalachicola Police Chief Bobby Varnes, the body of another adult male was pulled from the Apalachicola River near Anders Pier Friday night July 10, 2015.

Varnes said that around 6:30 Friday afternoon Sgt. Timothy Davis with the Apalachicola Police Department received a dispatch from the Franklin County Jail reporting that a man appeared to be drunk while riding a bicycle in the downtown area.

Varnes further stated that Sgt. Davis was unable to locate the man, but hours later a bicycle fitting the description was spotted face down in the river near Anders Pier with a shoe left on top of the pier.

According to Varnes, it appeared that the man may have driven his bicycle off the pier and landed face down in about 3 feet of water.

No foul play is expected. It is believed the man may have drowned, but his remains have been sent to the Medical Examiner’s office for the exact cause of death to be determined.

This marks the second body pulled from that area of the Apalachicola River in the last four days. Identification is being withheld until the next of kin can be notified.
