Local man charged with DUI after crash, leaving passenger injured

An Apalachicola man, who crashed his pickup truck into a palm tree, injuring his passenger late Saturday night, was charged with drunken driving according to Apalachicola Police Chief Bobby Varnes.

Timothy Watford, 30, was traveling west on U.S. Hwy 98 in his 2004 Ford Ranger when he crossed the center line at approximately 10:30 P.M. Saturday, ran off the road and hit a palm tree at 13th Street and 98 breaking the tree into.

Apalachicola Police Officer Sgt. Chet Turner worked the accident and reported that Watford’s 29-year-old female passenger from Georgia received a deep head laceration after hitting the windshield. Emergency personnel transported the passenger to a Panama City hospital for treatment.

Watford was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, with a blood-alcohol content of over double the legal limit at .018 percent and with possession of 20 grams or less of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The police also found a half consumed bottle of vodka in Watford’s vehicle.
