Joe Taylor |
Apalachicola resident Joe Taylor has been tapped to participate in an Ecosystem Restoration and Opportunities for Workforce Development and Resilience Workshop to be held in Gulfport, Mississippi on October 23, 2014.
The workshop is a collaborative effort of Oxfam America, the Nature Conservancy and the Corps Network to bring state and federal agency planners together with engineering and construction leaders, workforce development professionals and community leaders to work on developing ecosystem restoration projects across the Gulf of Mexico and to identify ways to create new on-ramps for skills training and on-the-job learning experience for local workers within forthcoming ecosystem projects to build community resilience.
Oxfam America is a global organization that works to right the wrongs of poverty, hunger, and injustice, the Nature Conservancy safeguards lands and waters upon which all life depends and the Corps Network are comprehensive youth development programs that provide their participants with job training, academic programming, leadership skills, and additional support through a strategy of service that improves communities and the environment.
Taylor was tapped to participate in the workshop to be held at the Knight Nonprofit Center in Gulfport, Mississippi because of his work as the executive director of the Franklin Promise Coalition.
“We would love to have you attend and bring your unique experience from working with Franklin Promise Coalition into this workshop and help us identify the challenges and opportunities in integrating community benefits like workforce development and resilience into Gulf Coast ecosystem restoration projects going forward and identifying ways forward for new collaboration across sectors”, wrote Jeffrey Buchanan in an October 9th email correspondence to Taylor. Buchanan is the Senior Domestic Policy Advisor with Oxfam America out of Washington, DC.
Over the past few months Taylor has been working feverishly with the Corps Network to bring their youth development and job training program into Franklin County in collaboration with the Franklin Promise Coalition.
