Department Joins Children’s Advocates to Celebrate Florida’s Future
Tallahassee, FL - Florida Health joins other state and local agencies, community organizations and providers of children's services in promoting Children's Week, an annual celebration that brings thousands of children to the state capitol for an opportunity to meet legislators and participate in numerous child-centered activities.

The 21st annual free event kicks off Jan. 24 with the "Hanging of the Hands," a cherished tradition of hanging tens of thousands of paper hand cut-outs, decorated by children from schools across the state. The hands will hang throughout the Capitol Rotunda through Friday, Jan. 29 to highlight the importance of children's issues and to strengthen the focus and impact of legislative policies for Florida's next generation.
The majority of events scheduled for the week will take place Tuesday, Jan. 26 at the State Capitol Courtyard. These activities include breakfast from 8:30 –10 a.m., a luncheon from noon–1:30 p.m. and Storybook Village from 9 a.m.–2 p.m.
The YMCA will hold a Town Hall Meeting Jan. 26 from 10:30 –11:45 a.m. in the Governor’s Cabinet Room. The meeting will provide a forum for Florida students addressing and discussing important issues with several state and community leaders.
The department's Division of Children's Medical Services, Division of Community Health Promotion, Bureau of Injury Prevention, Molar Express and DOH-Leon will be on hand at the capitol Jan. 26 to exhibit health-focused messages and provide materials that educate and encourage families to develop healthy food and activity habits.
