Health Department Changes Focus To Meet Children Dental Needs

Apalachicola, FL - The Florida Department of Health in Franklin County (DOH-Franklin) is restructuring the services of its dental clinic to a school-based sealant model that will serve primarily Medicaid eligible and uninsured children beginning Jan. 1, 2016.

The Carrabelle Dental Clinic will close December 31, 2015; however, the school-based dental clinic will remain open at Franklin County School to provide preventative services to children in the area. Any DOH-Franklin’s dental clients who need to see a dentist beginning January 1, 2016, will be referred to Rhonda Wilhite, DMD at Florida Department of Health in Gulf County.

The Carrabelle Clinic will remain open part-time providing services, such as, Women’s Health, Immunizations, WIC, and Vital Statistics.

The need for oral health services for all of Franklin County residents, especially the uninsured, is an ongoing priority of the department. If you have any questions regarding the dental clinic, please call (850) 653-2111 ext. 119.
