H’COLA making plans to host 11th Annual African-American History Festival

The Hillside Coalition Of Laborers for Apalachicola, Inc., (H’COLA) represented by its president Elinor Mount-Simmons appeared before the Apalachicola city council at their monthly meeting held last night and went over the groups plans for the 11th Annual African-American History Festival scheduled for February 15-16, 2014.

Mount-Simmons told commissioners that the members of H’COLA were in the midst of planning the festival and sought permission to use the Franklin Square Park and it's amenities to hold the event.

“The festival will feature a multitude of activity and events for the entire family, such as public service materials, educational information, arts and crafts, musical entertainment, motivational speakers, cultural awareness, and all types of food”, said Mount-Simmons.

She also reminded the commissioners of their prior year’s support that expanded African-American History Month into a city-wide observance and told commissioners that she looked forward to building on the growth of that collaboration.
