Apalachicola Library Celebrates Black History

On Saturday morning February 11, Apalachicola Mayor Van Johnson read aloud to children visiting the Apalachicola Municipal Library as part of the City/H’COLA’s month-long celebration of African-American History.

The mayor read to eager young listeners President Barack Obama’s book titled “Of Thee I Sing: A Letter to My Daughters” published by the president in November 2010.

Representatives from H’COLA approached the Apalachicola Board of City Commissioners at their January 2012 monthly meeting, where the group requested a partnership with the city in observance of February as African-American History Month.

The city commissioners, wholeheartedly, endorsed the request with their agreement and full support.
