Mayor's Remarks at 2nd Annual Oyster Cook-off

NOTE: Below are the written remarks made by Apalachicola Mayor Van Johnson on January 14, 2012, at the 2nd Annual Fire Department Oyster Cook-off.

Welcome to the Apalachicola Volunteer Fire Department's Second Annual Oyster Cook-off and silent auction fundraiser.

It's a beautiful day in this historic city and a wonderful opportunity for us to gather in this beautiful Park to benefit such a worthy cause.

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of fried, raw, steamed, and smoked oysters for your enjoyment, along with live music and a play area for the little ones and at the end of the day, it is our sincere hope that this year's event will be just as successful as last years.

In addition, I like to thank all the volunteers, and sponsors for their continued commitment to making sure that the brave men and women who put their lives at risk for the greater good of this community are equipped with the necessary tools to do their jobs.

Welcome all and please enjoy yourselves.
