In an effort to bring the renovation of the Scipio Creek Boat Basin into fruition, the City of Apalachicola has started soliciting Statements of Qualifications (SOQ) from interested firms or individuals to provide professional engineering services and or related services to the City for improvements to the Boat Basin.
This past June the U.S. Department of Commerce Economic Development Administration (EDA) announced that the agency had approved the City’s application for a $1,855,000 grant to revamp the Basin.
The improvements will likely include the installation of a haul out lift, fueling station, icehouse, an unloading dock, and facilities to encourage open-air markets where local seafood harvesters could sell their catch right off the boats.
The total project is expected to cost $2,490,596 and create up to 44 new jobs, the city’s portion of the cost include $200,000 from their Revolving Loan Fund, which is designed to create jobs and the remaining $435,596 from a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG).
