US Coast Guard Commander Joseph Boudrow, whose serving as the Deputy Incident Commander for the State Florida in matters related to the BP oil spill, requested in a letter dated July 13, a meeting with city officials to discuss and evaluate their recently adopted Oil Spill protection strategy.
The city agreed to meet today at 2:00PM at the Florida Emergency Operations Center in Tallahassee, with representatives from the Coast Guard, BP, and the State of Florida in attendance.
Since early June, the City of Apalachicola had writing letters to the Obama administration, BP and their Florida congressional delegates in a desperate plea for help in protecting the Apalachicola Bay estuary.
However, those pleas went largely ignored for weeks until city staffers forwarded copies of the letters along with the city’s oil spill plan directly to the Florida Emergency Operations Center via facsimile on July 12.
