Local DEC Announces Awareness March

APALACHICOLA, FL – The Franklin County Democratic Executive Committee (FCDEC) will be hosting a March, followed by a Rally, on Sunday, May 23, beginning at 6:00PM EDT at the Apalachicola City Hall and ending at the Franklin County Courthouse, in response to the recent environmental disaster brought on by the Deepwater Horizon oil spill.

Referred to as the “Apalachicola Bay Preservation Awareness March” will help inform local residents and rally support for the men and women who make their living on the coastal waters of Franklin County.

There will be various elected officials and organizational leaders in attendance, lending their support, and talking about the importance of preserving the pristine waters of the Apalachicola Bay and what the Franklin County community and surrounding areas can do to help.

“The FCDEC will work hand-in-hand with the people in the local seafood industry and state and national environmental protection agencies to promote and help protect our pristine waters,” said D.T. Simmons, media contact for the FCDEC.

“Our focus right now is raising awareness of the importance of our ecosystem in the balance of nature.”

Any youth group, church group, organization or concerned citizens that are interested in participating, should plan on meeting next Sunday at Apalachicola City Hall by 5:30PM EDT.

For more information, please contact D.T. Simmons at (850) 323-0344.
