Gwendolyn
Cecilia (Mikal) Johnson-Turk, (a.k.a. “Wendy”) 59, of Stockbridge, GA passed away
Tuesday, March 14, 2017 at the Gwinnett Medical Center in Lawrenceville, GA.
Mikal
was born in Apalachicola, Florida on November 4, 1957, to the late Deacon Abe Johnson,
Sr., and the late Pastor Azalee Pollock-Johnson. She was baptized at an early
age by the late Rev. Raymond A. Roger, former Pastor of Mt. Zion Missionary
Baptist Church in Apalachicola. She attended
Apalachicola High School up to her junior year before moving to Dayton, OH to
live with her older sister (Sandra), where she attended and graduated from Belmont
High School and attended college at Wright State University. Mikal moved to
Atlanta, GA in 1980, and found employment with Atlanta Gas Light, later with Marta
Train Transportation and at AT&T before becoming an entrepreneur. After making her home in the Atlanta area, she
met and married on September 26, 1987, her husband of 30-years, Odis Turk.
She is
survived by Odis and one son Michaiah Israel (Winnie), four brothers, Dr. Abe
Johnson, Jr., (Mittie), The Rev. Aldrich D. Johnson, Sr., (Faye), Apalachicola
Mayor Van W. Johnson, Sr., (Gail), Robert Hall Johnson, (Teresa), two sisters,
Evangelist Andra L. Johnson-Bryan (Preston), and Ethel Banks and a host of
nephews, nieces, uncles, aunts, cousins and close family friends.
In
addition to her parents she was preceded in death by three siblings, Vennie
Carolyn Johnson-Hall, Sandra Lee Johnson and Viola Johnson.
Services
will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, March 25, 2017 at the International
Christian Fellowship Ministries - 461 School Dr. S.E., Atlanta, GA 30354, the
Rev. William BGK Harris, Pastor. Dr. Johnson (her eldest brother) will deliver
the eulogy. The final
resting place will be in Resthaven Gardens of Memory Cemetery. Serving as
pallbearers will be Jomarcus Collins (cousin), Anthony Rucker (family friend)
Aldrich D. Johnson, Jr., (nephew), Van W. Johnson, II (nephew), Ezekiel B.
Johnson (nephew) and Randall L. Johnson (nephew).
Arrangements
are under the direction of Raleigh, Rucker Funeral Home - 2199 Candler Rd,
Decatur, GA 30032. Family visitation will be held at Raleigh, Rucker Funeral
Home on Friday, March 24, 2017, from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m., followed by Friends
from 1:00 – 8:00 p.m. The repast will be held inside the International
Christian Fellowship Ministries fellowship hall/dining area. Flowers and arrangements can be sent directly
to the funeral home and sympathy cards can be addressed and mailed to Michaiah
Israel at 3204 Fairington Club Dr., Lithonia, GA 30038.
