Plein Air May Events at the Apalachicola Center for History, Culture and Art


All activities, except as noted, are free and open to the public and take place Eastern Standard Time (EST). 

Friday, May 1, 2015

9 am-11 am ~ Demonstrations ~A Working Waterfront, Oil painters David Boyd Jr., Leon Holmes and James Richards at Riverfront Park

1 pm-  2 pm ~ Presentation: Quickdraw Quandries with David Boyd, Jr. and Leon Holmes facilitating upstairs at the HCA

Saturday, May 2         

9 am-6 pm ~  Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Katie Dobson Cundiff

9 am-2 pm ~ Quickdraw Competition, Riverfront Park, painting 10-12 noon.  More than 40 of the best paintings from the 2015 Quickdraw competition will be selected by invited artist, Hodges Soileau, which will hang as a tribute to the "two hour challenge."  Visit the second floor of the HCA which will be open 11 to 5 pm daily.

2-4 pm ~ Presentation: The Savvy collector a presentation and discussion offering advice and guidance on selecting art to purchase from upcoming new artists, presented by Joshua Rose

11 am-5 pm ~ Florida's Finest en Plein Air Exhibit Opening  A special tribute to the remarkable wealth of talent in the State of Florida, the exhibition will bring together paintings from across the state's 65,758 square miles.  Each of the paintings feature Florida scenes, painted in Florida, by Florida artists.  The exhibit will highlight the work of the Florida's Finest Ambassadors, Natalia Andreeva, Katie Dobson Cundiff, Cynthia Edmonds, Bill Farnsworth, Mary Garish and Mitch Kolbe. The exhibit will also feature a special presentation of paintings submitted by Florida's plein air artists juried by Morgan Samuel Price, and work by invited Florida artists Charles Dickinson, Larry Moore, and Hodges Soileau. 

6 pm-8 pm ~ Reception and Keynote Address: Florida's Finest en Plein Air and Quickdraw Exhibit, meet the artists, select work from a juried collection of Florida's top talent and congratulate the featured Plein Air Ambassadors.  Culinary specialties and refreshments followed by a keynote address by honored Judge, Joshua Rose, Editor of American Art Collector magazine.   Tickets $20 per person.
                                     
Sunday, May 3 
9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Cynthia Edmonds

9 am-11 am ~ Demonstration: Plein Church,  Enjoy gospel on the dock as Tracey Frugoli, Shelby Keefe and Nancie King Mertz,  capture this joyful blessing for a beautiful world to paint at Riverfront Park

Monday, May 4    

9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Mitch Kolbe

8 pm-10 pm ~ Full Moon Paint; nocturne painting draws more than lightning bugs. Tracey Frugoli shares her thoughts on painting in the dark along with Gene Costanza, Leon Holmes and James Richards at Riverfront Park.

Tuesday, May 5    

9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Mitch Kolbe

Wednesday, May 6  

9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Bill Farnsworth

Thursday, May 7  

9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Bill Farnsworth

Friday, May 8       

9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Bill Farnsworth

9 am-11 am ~ Dueling Demos, Oil painters Ken DeWaard and Greg LaRock showcase their talents in an entertaining presentation at Riverfront Park

7 pm-10 pm ~ Plein Air TGIF, Celebrate "en Plein Air" on the dock with music, swing dancing, tasty seafood and local cuisine. In honor of 10 years of plein air success, this party is not one to miss.  Tickets $10 per person at Riverfront Park

Saturday, May 9  

9 am-6 pm ~ Painting Stations; Community Canvas, Riverfront Park with Bill Farnsworth

9 am-11am ~ Demonstration: Working Waterfronts, Oil painters Morgan Samuel Price and Charles Dickinson at Riverfront Park 

Monday, May 11 - 13 

9 am-4pm daily ~ Two Guys, Three Days, Dueling Demos Workshop with Greg LaRock and Ken DeWaard A 3 day workshop with nationally known, award winning plein air artists. Watch and learn with demos by both artists including a side by side demo of the same subject matter. Lots of hands on instruction and discussion.  Workshop open to all levels.
