Because of action taken at the Apalachicola Board of City Commissioners monthly meeting held last night, owners of golf carts within the City of Apalachicola will now be able to legally operate their carts at night on designated streets throughout the city.
At the April 8 meeting city commissioners held the final of two required public hearings for passage of an amendment to Golf Cart Ordinance No. 2009-05. The amendment (No. 2014-02), which takes effect immediately now allows for golf cart owners to operate their carts between the hours of sunset and sunrise. Provided the carts are equipped with integrated headlights, brakes lights, turn signals and a windshield. All other provisions and requirements of Ordinance No. 2009-05 remains in full effect.
The city was requested to modify the ordinance last May by a group of local residents and golf cart owners led by Cynthia Rhodes. Rhodes told commissioners during the May 7, 2013 meeting that the group wanted more time to enjoy the use of their carts, especially during the summer months.
