The City of Apalachicola Skate Park located at 14th Street and Avenue L received a new name at the city commission regular scheduled meeting held on August 3.
At the behest of the family, commissioners unanimously agreed to rename the park after the late Justin Brice Griffin, a 21-year-old Apalachicola man who passed away in a single car accident west of town on the morning of July 23.
During her monthly report to the commission, city administrator Betty Taylor-Webb told commissioners that Griffin was one of the driving forces behind gaining the city’s approval to build the park.
Before the final vote, city commissioner Frank Cook assured that the naming included only the park and not the historic square upon which the park sits.
