The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory on Sunday, August 1, 2010, for Apalachicola and Franklin County for this afternoon Monday, August 2, from 2:00PM EDT to 6:00PM EDT. High humidity combined with afternoon highs in the upper 90’s will produce dangerous heat indices between 107 and 112 degrees.
The elderly, very young and people with heart conditions are most at risk in extreme heat. People should check on their friends, relatives, and neighbors who may be at risk.
An excessive heat warning means that a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures will occur. The combination of hot temperatures and high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in which heat illnesses are likely.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, and stay out of the sun and check up on friends and neighbors.
