Apalachicola Research Reserve Holds Disaster Drill



~The US Coast Guard will be coordinating a disaster exercise in 
Franklin County, April 21, 2015~

APALACHICOLA –The Apalachicola National Estuarine Research Reserve, in conjunction with the US Coast Guard, will be holding a disaster training exercise on the John Gorrie Bridge on April 21, 2015. Hull’s Environmental Services and Nautilus Global will also assist with this exercise.

The disaster drill is a mock scenario of two fuel trucks colliding on the causeway portion of the John Gorrie Bridge resulting in a spill of fuel into the bay. Traffic will not be blocked during the exercise and no fuel will enter the bay.

Coordination with the Apalachicola, Eastpoint and the St. George Island Volunteer Fire Departments, the Franklin County Sheriff’s office, Apalachicola Police Department, the Franklin County Emergency Management office, Florida Highway Patrol, Bay County Hazardous Materials Team, Gulf Unmanned Systems, and the State office of Emergency Response has already taken place.
