The Gulf Coast State College Board of Trustees along with new college president Dr. John Holdnak met yesterday with local elected officials and community leaders over lunch at the Owl Café in Apalachicola.
The purpose of the luncheon was to bring together elected officials from city and county governments from both Gulf and Franklin Counties along with community leaders to solicit input into the development of a five year Strategic Plan for the college.
The college trustees were seeking local input on how best to address the workforce needs of the communities located within their service area. Information exchanged during the luncheon will be evaluated for implementation, which consisted of developing certification programs that would lead to ready employment of graduating high school students and those without a high school education or a G.E.D., programs that could be built upon to achieve a higher education if desired.
The trustees also announced plans to expand their presents throughout Gulf and Franklin County at select locations and times in Apalachicola, Carrabelle, Eastpoint and Wewahitchka, where college staff will be available to provide face time to answer questions concerning a wide array of subjects and services offered by the college.
