| Nose of downed Cessna 172RG West of Apalachicola |
A small Cessna 172RG plane had to make an emergency landing today outside of Apalachicola in the marsh area near the Lombardi Seafood Landing Park off U.S. Hwy 98 west of town. The Cessna 172 is a four-seat, single-engine, high-wing fixed-wing aircraft made by the Cessna Aircraft Company and first flown in 1955.

The plane piloted by Greg Stansberry was just taken off from the Apalachicola Regional Airport and was in a holding pattern when the plane's engine died, forcing the pilot to make an emergency landing in the west end of the 2-mile channel.

Stansberry reported to be fine and refused medical treatment. He was rescued from the site by Fish & Wildlife Officer John Allen, Carrabelle Police Chief Craig Kincaid and First Responder Mark Vanamburgh. Law Enforcement Officers from both the Franklin County Sheriff Office and the Apalachicola Police Department were also on the scene as well as EMT's from Weems Memorial Hospital.

After the emergency landing Stansberry used his cell phone to call 911 around 1:07pm to report the incident, at the same time John Moore, manager of the Apalachicola Regional Airport also placed a 911 call to dispatch at the Franklin County Sheriff Office.

According to John Daggett, Flight Instructor at the St. Pete/Clearwater International Airport, Stansberry was in Apalachicola to take the plane back to Clearwater.
