In a campaign stop in Franklin County yesterday U.S. Congressman Steve Southerland stopped by to visit with Apalachicola Mayor Van Johnson out at the Mayor Van W. Johnson, Sr., Recreation and Community Service Complex. Southerland from Panama City represents Florida’s second congressional district including the City of Apalachicola.
During their visit the two discussed at length the mayor’s concerns over the reduction of freshwater flow down the Apalachicola-Chattahoochee-Flint river basin, the plight of the local seafood workers and the restore act fine funds slated for Franklin County from the 2010 Deepwater Horizon BP Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
After the visit Congressman Southerland was off to address the local Rotary Club at a scheduled luncheon appearance.
