Apalachicola celebrates National Oyster Day with the grand opening of the city's first brewery

There was nothing typical about Tuesday afternoon in the Historic City of Apalachicola as a crowd of about 400 enthusiastic residents and visitors gathered to celebrate the grand opening of the Apalachicola Oyster City Brewing Company in conjunction with the celebration of National Oyster Day.  A very fitting celebration to take place in the historic city, which is considered the Oyster Capitol of the World.

During the event H.J. Huntry and the Curry Brothers provided live music, which filled the downtown air while the crowd slurped down hot sauce laden oysters fresh from Apalachicola Bay and washed them down with the new hometown brew, Apalach India Ale, Hooter Brown Ale and Mill Pond Dirty Blonde Ale.  All of which are brewed locally inside the Oyster City Brewing Company, which is located at 17 Avenue D.  The building was home to the Oasis Bar for a number of years before being purchased by the current owners and transformed into a brewery.

One of the newest establishments started in the city this year the brewery in owned by Cassie Gary, Susan Gary, Rex Humphries and Bo Walker.  Cassie, Susan and Rex also own the popular Owl Cafe & Tap Room both located in downtown Apalachicola as well.

Several restaurants and bars both locally and around the area now carry the local brew, including the Tap Room and the Hurricane Grill & Wings out of Tallahassee, who's owners were also in attendance at yesterday's celebration.
