Chipley –The Florida Department of Transportation is closely working with the Florida State Emergency Operations Center and local governments to monitor road and bridge conditions across Northwest Florida as Tropical Storm Isaac approaches the gulf coast.
As high winds approach, local law enforcement or the Florida Highway Patrol may close bridges or other structures to ensure the safety of the motoring public. Law enforcement personnel will look at wind speeds, storm surge, rain bands and other conditions at each bridge and structure to decide if and when to close it. Please tune to local television and radio broadcasts to hear whether area bridges and tunnels have been closed.
The following counties have determined wind speeds that will necessitate the closure of bridges and structures:
Walton County - 40 mph
Gulf County - 50 mph
Franklin County - 50 mph
Escambia County - 30-39 mph
Santa Rosa County - 39 mph
Bay County - 60 mph for the DuPont Bridge; 55 mph for the Hathaway Bridge
Okaloosa County - 45 mph
