Community cleanup planned for Apalachicola

A coalition of community organizations and government agencies will be hosting an all volunteer cleanup throughout Apalachicola on October 1-2, 2011.

The plan is to meet at the Community Service Complex (old high school) at 9:00AM Saturday, October 1, to divide into teams. Basic supplies will be provided, however participates can if they so desire bring their own brooms, rakes and gloves and volunteer for the whole day or part of the day.

Throughout the day snacks and drinks will be provided and at 5:00PM the volunteers will gather at AJ’s Neighborhood Bar & Grill for a community supper of AJ’s famous fried chicken and vegetables and to celebrate the success of the day with friends and neighbors.

On Sunday, October 2, the cleanup will commence at 8:00AM in downtown Apalachicola where Main Street volunteers will meet at the corner of Market Street and Avenue D with brooms, rakes, clippers, shovels and gloves. Snacks and drinks will also be provided.

The goal is to clean up the city to make it a better environment for both residents and visitors.

Members of the coalition includes, the Historic Apalachicola Main Street Program, the Hillside Coalition of Laborers for Apalachicola (H’COLA), the Franklin’s Promise Coalition, the City of Apalachicola, the Franklin County Solid Waste Department and Volunteer Florida.
