Art opening in Celebration of Black History

City Grid II, by Valerie Goodwin

Before your night out on the town, stop by 49 Palmetto Gallery located in historic Apalachicola at 49 Avenue G, at the corner of Avenue G and 4th Street to be inspired.

Opening tonight, February 18, with a reception from 6:00PM – 8:00PM is an exhibition highlighting the work (Contemporary Art Quilts) of two exceptional African-American Artists--Valerie Goodwin and Yvonne Wells.

Valerie Goodwin is both an architect and artist. Her quilts are inspired by the realistic and abstract imagery of maps and the points, lines, and patterns found within them.

Yvonne Wells is a retired Alabama public school teacher and a self-taught quilt- maker and artist. Wells quilts have evolved from traditional quilting techniques and express pictorial narratives of personal and political significance.

Part improvisation and part memory, together their works explore the rich tradition of quilt making in new and exciting ways.

Goodwin will be on hand to share her work, for more information, visit
