Former Palmetto Mayor presented key to city by Mayor Van Johnson
This past Friday, May 7, 2010, while travelling along Florida’s scenic coastline from the City of Palmetto to Houston, Texas, the former mayor of Palmetto, Pat Whitesel and her travel companion stopped off for a brief visit in Apalachicola.
Palmetto is the second largest municipality within Manatee County, with a population of more than 14,000; the riverfront community is situated just north of Bradenton, along the northern shore of the Manatee River.
Similar to Apalachicola, Palmetto is equipped with one of the state's most noteworthy collection of historic structures - approximately 160 buildings in Palmetto are listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
In addition to her role a mayor, Whitesel served on the Palmetto Downtown Community Partnership and as a Jeb Bush’s gubernatorial appointee on the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council representing Manatee County.
The 74-year-old former mayor now spends most of her time traveling, had nothing but wonderful things to say about historic Apalachicola.
