The Apalachicola Board of City Commissioners passed the following resolution at their regular scheduled monthly October 8th meeting commemorating the 50th Annual Florida Seafood Festival to be held this coming November 1st - 2nd.
HISTORIC CITY OF APALACHICOLA
RESOLUTION
COMMEMORATING THE 50TH ANNUAL FLORIDA SEAFOOD FESTIVAL
WHEREAS, the Florida Seafood Festival is Florida’s oldest maritime event featuring local seafood delicacies from Apalachicola Bay and highlighting the heritage of the men and women that have harvested the Bay for generations; and
WHEREAS, the Festival is a two-day event annually drawing tens of thousands of visitors to Apalachicola in scenic Franklin County, Florida under the shady oaks of Historic Battery Park; and
WHEREAS, the Festival offers a multitude of events and activities for all ages, from seafood related events such as oyster eating and shucking contests, blue crab races and blessing of the fleet to more traditional fanfare such as rides, musical entertainment, photo contest, 5k run and fireworks; and
WHEREAS, November 1st and 2nd, 2013 festivities mark a milestone for this remarkable maritime event, the Board of Commissioners of the City of Apalachicola, along with its administration, staff and citizenry commend the Florida Seafood Festival Board of Directors for their dedication and accomplishment in preserving this annual event by reaching this 2013 Golden 50th Year of the Florida Seafood Festival.
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that I, Van W. Johnson, Sr., as Mayor of the City of Apalachicola hereby urge its citizens to attend, participate and offer their show of gratitude for this community milestone achievement of the 2013 Golden 50th Year of the Florida Seafood Festival held here in Historic Apalachicola, Florida.
