On Thursday, April 16, Apalachicola resident and leading Franklin County Seahawks varsity basketball player Deshaun Winfield signed a letter-of-intent to continue his basketball career at Daytona State College.
After a successful high school basketball season in which Winfield averaged 20-points per game and led his team to the Florida High School Athletic Association Class 2A Final Four State Playoffs.

Daytona State men’s basketball program offered the senior forward a full scholarship to play for Anthony Andre who took over the helm as head coach of the Falcons at the start of their 2008/2009 season.
Winfield is notably the first student-athlete from the new consolidated Franklin County School to sign a full college scholarship.
